Group Study Guide

We are looking at the Parables of Jesus in our Weekly group study and how they relate in our collective journeys toward God. The discussions are livly and everyone participates while enjoying discussions centered on God. Currently we are going through Mathew Chapter 13. The parables are are great way that scripture reveals to us 3 different things.
1. The Character of the King – What is God is like and how he relates with man.
2.The Character of the Kingdom – What the living for God is really about.
3. The Character of the Citizens in the kingdom – How Christ followers are to live and how they are reflect kingdom values.
Parables that we are currently looking at are located in St. Mathew chapter 13
1. The Parable of the Sower Mat. 13:3-9, 18-23
2. Wheat and the Tares Mat. 13:24-30,36-40
The Parable of the Sower reveal 4 types of Soil that are reflective of how our heart receives the word of God. Hard Soil is like a hard heart that is difficult to penetrate. Emotionless, cold and hard. Individuals with hard hearts find it difficult to feel. When is the last time you really opened up and cried or hard a laugh so hard your belly hurt? This is a great way to talk about our emotional receptivity.
Stony Soil reveals individuals that have received the gospel and have some short term gains but long term loss. They reveal the danger of rooting ourself to anything outside of Christ. This reflects how individuals can get their eyes on the music, programs, pastors, titles and a number of otherthings you fill in the _______ (blank) of things we can get our eyes on and we get so hurt when it does not work out like we thought it would.
