September 18th, 2008 alexdong
What a unbelievable time we had at the soup kitchen this week. Special thanks go out to Darla, Jeanie and the joy-filled team of volunteers that organized, prepared and served the food to feed 200 of Chicago’s homless and needy. The totals came in at feeding 177 wonderful and greatful participant.
We were able to distribute all the canvas bags that were donated and collect at Thriftique. Over 100 personal deoderants, mouth wash, tooth brushes, shmpoos and conditioners were distributed. We ran out faster than the need went out.
Request for warm coats, shoes, sweater’s, scarves and gloves were given over and over. Please save your items that could go to meet the needs that we are coming in contact with.
On a personal note I was blessed to meet a 23 year old couple that have been homless for 7 months. They shared the struggles of life on the street and how litteraly they fear everynight due to the violence that is out there. What struck me deepest about this couple was the fact that more than anything they simply wanted some guidence and prayer. We heard how tough it really is and how couples have a difficult time finding a shelter to stay at where they can be together. The stories they shared literaly brought tears to my eye’s. A little snippet of how our conversation went that I just can’t stop thinking about was the two of them describing how they sleep in port-a-potty when it rains just to stay dry and have a measure of safty. Many in the ministry have been praying that the things that make God weep may also serve to make us weep. This is a small glimpse into 2 lives that represent thousands throughout Chicagoland. I pray this story would serve as a reminder to us all that one by one we are begining to make a difference in the lives of thoes that are in despirate need of a folks you will not judge them but love them and show them there is hope and the name of that hope is through Jesus.
Man do I love our church, you guy’s are the best to serve alongside of.
Please pray for us as we work to UNITE the kingdom of heaven here on earth.
